Karat discovered that only a small percentage Black software engineering candidates were being granted interviews, and when they were being interviewed, a large percentage of Black candidates were not performing well on their technical interviews.
Contributing to this was the fact that only 48% of all Black software engineers had access to practice technical interviews before graduating.
Karat turned to our public relations counsel to solve this. Wilbron recommended three actions:
1.
Position Karat’s already existing Brilliant Black Minds community as an end-to-end hiring solution for Black software engineers by creating a hiring pipeline, with the participation of companies like Citi, Amazon Prime, and others joining the initiative.
2.
Provide free practice technical interviews to all members of the Brilliant Black Minds community.
3.
Leverage the star power of Serena Williams to encourage practice, thereby driving the utilization of practice interviews. Karat announced the campaign with NASDAQ in Times Square.
